The Severe Thunderstorm Watch which was in effect through early Thursday evening has expired. A Flood Watch will be allowed to expire at midnight. For interactive radar and current alerts, click here and scroll down to 'interactive radar'.

The risk of severe weather is gradually decreasing.  Showers and storms will gradually wane after sunset. Scattered rain and a few noisy storms will linger past 10 p.m.

Plan on much cooler weather Friday

The same 'cold' front that contributed to Thursday storms sags southward Friday.

Behind the front, much cooler weather filters into most of Maryland. Friday begins with temperatures in the mid to upper 60s in many communities. High temperatures are expected to remain in the 70s for areas along the Bay, portions of Baltimore County and most of northeast Maryland. There is another chance of a few Friday morning showers and Friday afternoon storms.

Rain coverage remains spotty.

Hotter weather returns to Maryland this weekend

The upcoming weekend will be seasonably hot and muggy.

Expect a mix of sun and clouds, with hot and muggy weather. Scattered thunderstorms will develop during the afternoon and evening hours. These storms will be of the hit-or-miss variety. The greatest chance of rain may remain south of Baltimore. Not every neighborhood will get wet.

Neighborhoods that do receive storms could receive brief  heavy rainfall, cloud-to-ground lightning and gusty winds. Temperatures peak in the upper 80s and lower 90s both weekend afternoons. Mugginess will make it feel hotter.
