Driver fleeing police crashes into building in Baltimore's Fells Point neighborhood, police say
A man is facing drunk driving charges after crashing a vehicle into a Fells Point building early Sunday, according to Baltimore Police.
Police said they were patrolling in the 400 block of South Broadway around 5 a.m. when they approached a man who appeared to be under the influence of alcohol as he attempted to get into the driver's seat of a vehicle.
After entering the vehicle, police say they told the man multiple times to exit. Instead, he allegedly put the vehicle in drive and attempted to flee the scene.
The vehicle hit the curb, crossed into the southbound lane in the wrong direction, struck another curb, and then crashed into a building, according to police.
Officers removed the man from the vehicle and placed him under arrest. He was later taken to an area hospital for treatment before being discharged and taken to the Central Booking Intake Facility. They have not released the 24-year-old's identity.
He is facing multiple charges, including DWI, reckless driving, negligent driving, and attempting to elude police.
