Boston recorded its first official heat wave of 2025 and hit 101 degrees today, as extreme weather set new temperature records in the city.

It wasn't just a record-setting day, it was a record-smashing day. Boston and Worcester both blew past their daily records for the date.

Logan Airport at 9 a.m. Tuesday recorded a temperature reading of 90 degrees for the third day in a row, kicking off one of the hottest days in southern New England in recent memory.

The National Weather Service has Boston and much of Massachusetts under an extreme heat warning, and Boston Mayor Michelle Wu has declared a heat emergency in the city through Tuesday.

Record temperature in Boston

Tuesday was the warmest June day ever recorded in Boston. The high of 101 degrees beat out the prior June record of 100 set in 2021, 1952 and in 1925.

It was the 28th time in recorded history that Boston hit 100 degrees and the first time since 2022.

The hottest temperature ever recorded in Boston was 104 degrees on July 4, 1911.

Heat index today

It will feel even hotter than the actual temperature outside thanks to the heat index, which takes into account the humidity.

The National Weather Service says conditions will be "dangerously hot," with heat index values up to 110 degrees.

Heat stroke is a concern for anyone who will be outdoors in these conditions. The Centers for Disease Control wearing light, loose-fitting clothing, staying hydrated and taking it slow if outside.

Hozier concert in Boston

For those heading to night two of Hozier at Fenway Park, there are special policies in place to keep fans cool and hydrated.

The ballpark is allowing concertgoers to bring in plastic and refillable water bottles, as well as personal mini fans. Misting fans will be set up near each entrance gate and at the first aid station.

When will the heat wave end?

While Tuesday was the peak of the heat, we have one more day to endure. Wednesday will make this a four-day heat wave for many towns.

There will be an afternoon seabreeze Wednesday in Boston which will cool off temperatures, however, we expect the city to reach 90 in the morning (much like Tuesday).

The dewpoints will also remain high on Wednesday, leading to feels-like temperatures between 100-105 degrees.

Relief comes on Thursday. A good day to open the windows and let the heat out of your house.

There may be a few showers here and there Thursday, Friday and/or Saturday but we do not expect any washouts.

We will make another run at 90 degrees on Sunday and early next week.
