More video was released Monday showing the events leading to the controversial death of Francis Gigliotti after he was detained by Haverhill, Massachusetts police earlier this month.

Gigliotti, 43, died after a struggle with Haverhill police officers on Friday, July 11. Essex County District Attorney Paul Tucker said Gigliotti was "behaving erratically" and then tried to run into a restaurant on Winter Street when officers stopped him. Gigliotti yelled for help and then became unresponsive as several police officers tried to restrain him. He was rushed to a hospital where he died.

The official cause of death has not been determined yet by the medical examiner, Tucker said.

28 minutes of video released

At a news conference at his office in Salem Monday, Tucker released 28 minutes of edited video from surveillance cameras and people recording in the area in the minutes leading up to the incident. Tucker said there were no police body cameras.

In the video, Gigliotti is seen wandering across a street and eventually talking with two police officers before running away. The video later shows him trying to enter the restaurant but he's pulled back and eventually taken down by several officers. Gigliotti is then heard yelling for help while he's being restrained.

"I am drawing no conclusions," D.A. says

"This is simply one part of the investigation," Tucker said of the video, which he said is part of 90 minutes of total video compiled so far in the investigation. That raw video will be released at a later date, the district attorney said.

"I'm not going to prejudge. I think that when we take a look at the video, people can see into it what they do. As part of the investigation, we're going to break it down, piece by piece, and, as we stand here today, I am nowhere near able to say what we're prejudging or any conclusions that we've drawn," he said.

"I can assure you that a complete, impartial and independent investigation will be done by my office and that I am committed to transparency and providing the public with as much information as we can at the appropriate time. This includes sharing the video," Tucker told reporters. "I am drawing no conclusions as of today."

The day after the incident, Gigliotti's fiancée, Michele Rooney, told WBZ-TV Gigliotti wasn't erratic or violent during the incident and actually called out for help. A friend said Gigliotti struggled with depression and mental health issues.

Gigliotti's close friend and neighbor, Alexis Barton, said she saw the video and is deeply disturbed. "I don't know what happened there but that was not him. That's not how I want to remember him as. I just know the loving, caring person that he was," Barton said. "He liked everybody."

Seven Haverhill police officers have been put on administrative leave while Tucker's office looks into what happened. The district attorney has been looking for any from the altercation.
