Off-duty police officer shot by another officer in "armed confrontation" at her North Andover, Massachusetts home
UPDATE: North Andover off-duty officer in stable condition, identified by investigators
A police officer in North Andover, Massachusetts shot an off-duty officer from the same department in her home Monday evening, investigators said.
According to Essex County District Attorney Paul Tucker, a North Andover officer was serving a court order at a house on Phillips Brooks Road around 6:30 p.m. when "an armed confrontation ensued" and the officer "discharged their department-issued firearm."
"The off-duty officer was struck and wounded," Tucker said in a statement. "Medical aid was immediately rendered, and the wounded individual was transported to a Boston-area hospital."
There's no official word on the wounded officer's condition. No one else was hurt and no other names have been released.
WBZ-TV's I-Team has learned the woman is in her 20's and she is expected to survive. Town records show she owns the home.
"The investigation into the incident is being conducted by the Essex District Attorney's Office and the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit assigned to DA Tucker's office," the D.A.'s office said.
North Andover is about an hour and 15 minutes north of Boston.
