Man hospitalized after being shot in face in Arlington Heights, Illinois
Arlington Heights police are investigating after a man was shot in the face in front of a home Friday morning.
A white Corvette that was in the driveway with its entire window shattered and damage to the driver's side door is believed to be at the center of the crime.
The Cook County Sheriff's Office said the incident happened around 3:20 a.m. in unincorporated Arlington Heights.
They received a report that a person had been shot in the face, and when they responded, they saw a man at the scene and treated him before he was taken in an ambulance to a nearby hospital.
Sheriffs began to canvas the scene while joined by Arlington Heights police to try to find witnesses, surveillance video, and any other evidence that would lead to the shooter.
Neighbors in Arlington Heights said this is something they would not expect in the village, but were recently warned about four reports of stolen cars and five reports of damaged vehicles in the past two weeks, excluding Friday's shooting.
Connie has lived nearby for three years and said the neighborhood was safe so far, until the shooting.
She said she sees the car every day, and the shooting serves as a wake-up call.
"I've always told my daughter, 'Why isn't it inside the garage?' But I mean, because it's been so safe out here, owners feel like they can leave it out, but this is a wakeup call. I mean, it's kind of concerning, you know," Connie said.
The condition of the victim remains unknown, but they're expected to make a full recovery.
As of Friday, police said they don't have anyone in custody.
