It caps off a $2.1 billion project to replace century-old tracks, signals, and platforms that had all reached the end of their service lives.

The project brought larger stations with modern amenities, allowing for a significant decrease in overcrowding; ADA accessibility, including escalators, elevators, and wider platforms; improved lighting and security features; and real-time information boards. The CTA has said the improvements to the stations will allow for fewer delays, more reliable train service, and a smoother ride.
