Semi truck rolls over on northbound I-55 near Burr Ridge, Illinois; lanes reopen after 9 hours
A semi truck rolled over on the Stevenson Expressway on Tuesday morning, shutting down the northbound lanes near Burr Ridge, Illinois, for more than nine hours.
Illinois State Police said the semi truck rolled over in the northbound lanes of Interstate 55 near County Line Road just after 6 a.m. ISP said the crash caused a low-level hazardous materials spill that has been contained.
The truck rolled over across all northbound lanes and the shoulders of I-55, leaving traffic trapped behind the crash.
The driver of the semi truck was taken to a local hospital. The extent of the driver's injuries was not immediately released.
According to the Village of Burr Ridge, Illinois State Police notified them around 3:30 p.m. that they were reopening the northbound lanes of I-55 to traffic.
CBS Skywatch was over the scene around 3:20 p.m. as crews began reopening at least two northbound lanes of I-55, while the right lane and shoulder remained closed after the overturned truck was moved to the shoulder.
