Two people collided mid-air while skydiving, leaving one dead and another injured in Rochelle, Illinois, on Wednesday night.

This happened just before 7 p.m. at the Chicagoland Skydiving Center, in Ogle County, about 80 miles west of Chicago.

Two jumpers collided after their parachutes had deployed, according to Chicagoland Skydiving Center.

The Ogle County sheriff said both skydivers' reserve parachutes deployed. One jumper was able to land safely with minor injuries, but the other spiraled out of control and crashed into a parking lot, according to the sheriff's office and the skydiving company.

The 40-year-old man was taken to Rochelle Community Hospital, where he later died. The Ogle County Sheriff said the victim's name is being withheld pending family notification.

Chicagoland Skydiving Center said the man who died was an experienced and licensed skydiver, who had made more than 2,900 skydives.

"The skydiving community is a tight-knit group, and any loss is deeply felt throughout the sport. The management of Chicagoland Skydiving Center oers its sincerest condolences to the family of the deceased and the many friends who had shared the skies with him throughout the years," the center said in a statement.

An investigation is underway by the Ogle County Sheriff's Office, and Chicagoland Skydiving Center said they are cooperating with the investigation. The center said there were clear skies at the time of the incident, with winds of 5 to 8 mph.

This was the second skydiving accident in the state this week. On Monday, 48-year-old Dr. Noel Liu, a dental entrepreneur, died after a jump at Skydive Chicago in Ottawa.

His wife posted a heartfelt tribute on Facebook, saying, "He touched many lives with his warmth and enthusiasm."

She said he lived life with passion and was an amazing husband and father.

And, a few weeks ago in Georgia, another skydiver died after her parachute hit another jumper's gear.
