Weather causes delays, short sets, late end-time at Offspring concert in Tinley Park, Illinois
Offspring fans who flocked to Credit Union 1 Amphitheatre last weekend are being compensated by Live Nation after sitting through long delays only to get shortened sets and a late end time Saturday night.
A fan who contacted CBS News Chicago said the show was scheduled to start at 7 p.m. but the venue held off on opening doors as thunderstorms with heavy rain and lightning moved through the area. During that time, the fan said they got sparse updates at best, waiting over an hour despite getting a message that said they'd get updates every 30 minutes.
The fan said they and others were left waiting in the cars for nearly three hours.
The fan said doors finally opened just minutes before 9 p.m., but by that time many others had already left by then de to the weather, the delay and the poor communication.
While the show did go on, the fan said opening act New Found Glory didn't perform, Jimmy Eat World played for 15 minutes and the Offspring also performed a truncated set that still ended after the 11 p.m. curfew imposed by the city.
The fan told CBS News Chicago they had heard from others online that fans who left and asked Ticketmaster for a refund were denied because Ticketmaster said the concert "proceeded."
The City of Tinley Park said that while their ordinance does specify that performances must end at 11, there is a 15-to-20-minute grace period due to weather only. City officials said the show operated within that guideline.
The venue issued a statement on the concert, saying, "Safety is always our top priority, and we work with expert meteorologists and local officials to make calls on weather. Lightning delayed the show, but once it passed, the concert went on. As a thank you for their patience, all ticket holders will automatically receive Concert Cash valid at Live Nation shows through 2026."
The fan confirmed they did in fact receive a $75 credit for each ticket they bought to use for another event purchased through Live Nation that is good through 2026.
