Toddler found dead in Colorado after going missing in open space in Silverthorne
A toddler was found dead early Tuesday evening about two hours after reports came out about him going missing in an open open space area in Colorado's Summit County.
Late Tuesday afternoon, search and rescue crews began searching for the child, who has not been identified, in Silverthorne's Willow Grove Open Space.
The one-and-a-half-year-old boy was reported missing just before 4 p.m. at the area off Willow Way along the Blue River Trail. The area is just west of Blue River Parkway, about 8 miles north of Interstate 70.
After 6 p.m., Town of Silverthorne officials said they were "heartbroken" to find the child's body.
"Our hearts go out to the family who lost a loved one and to emergency responders who were involved in the incident," they wrote in a prepared statement.
So far authorities are not releasing any details about what led up to the child's disappearance and death.
