The Denver Nuggets are reportedly getting forward Cam Johnson as part of the deal and will also reportedly be trading away a 2032 first-round pick.

CBS Sports writer Cameron Salerno  a "significant move for the Nuggets."

"Not only do they add a versatile wing in Johnson, but also get off Porter's massive contract. Brooklyn is one of the only teams with true cap space this offseason," Salerno wrote.

Robby Kalland of CBS Sports that Johnson, a high percentage shooter, "seems to be a phenomenal fit for the Nuggets."

"(He) will give the Nuggets the kind of 3-and-D wing they crave. Johnson's time in Brooklyn also gave him a bit more practice as an on-ball creator, but with Nikola Jokić and Jamal Murray, that will be a secondary concern to being a sharpshooter to help space the floor around those two stars."

CBS Sportswriter James Herbert to both teams for the trade. On the business end of things, Herbert wrote that the Nuggets "shed Porter's contract, got better at his position, created a $16.8 million trade exception, got under the luxury tax and opened up the $14.1 million non-taxpayer midlevel exception."

The Nuggets drafted MPJ with the 14th pick in 2018 and he played an important role on the team during the 2023 season when they won their first NBA championship. He has averaged 16.2 points per game in his NBA career, which has been stop-and-go at times due to injuries.
