Michigan State Police trooper injured, suspect dead after shooting in Detroit
A Michigan State Police trooper was injured and a suspect is dead after a shooting Friday evening in Detroit.
Police say the shooting happened sometime before 8 p.m. at southbound M-10 at Wyoming.
MSP said a trooper conducting a traffic stop was involved in a physical altercation with the suspect and was shot. MSP said the trooper was struck three times, two hitting his vest and the third his shoulder. The trooper fired back, hitting the suspect, a 41-year-old man from Highland Park.
The trooper was taken to a hospital for treatment and released on Saturday. The suspect died at the scene. Police say a gun was found at the scene.
MSP said the trooper has been with the department for about a year. It is unclear how many shots he fired and why the trooper initiated the traffic stop.
An investigation is ongoing.
