Police officer shoots armed individual in Madison Heights, officials say
Police in Madison Heights, Michigan, say an officer shot an armed individual on Friday night after responding to a report of shots fired.
Officers responded to he 27000 block of Brettonwoods Street around 8:15 p.m. for a report of someone firing "multiple, intermittent" gunshots in the neighborhood.
According to police, officers with Madison Heights and Royal Oak set a perimeter and located the individual behind a home on Brettonwoods Street.
"The subject, who was holding a handgun, was ordered multiple times to drop the gun, but the subject failed to comply," police said in a news release Saturday afternoon.
One officer shot the individual "multiple times" after they pointed the gun in the direction of law enforcement, police said. The individual was then taken to the hospital, where they were listed in critical but stable condition on Saturday afternoon.
It's unknown whether the officer who shot their firearm is with the Madison Heights Police Department or the Royal Oak Police Department.
A .45 caliber semiautomatic pistol and spent shell casings were found near the individual at the scene, according to officials.
The Oakland County Sheriff's Office is investigating the shooting, and police in Madison Heights are looking into the circumstances surrounding the shots fired incident.
