Four suspects taken into custody in Pontiac shooting that killed 1 teen, injured another
Four individuals were taken into custody in connection with a shooting on Tuesday that killed one teen and injured another in Pontiac, Michigan.
In an update on Wednesday, the Oakland County Sheriff's Office said a 13-year-old and a 15-year-old were arrested shortly after the shooting on gun charges. A 17-year-old was arrested at about 4 p.m. on Wednesday. Their identities have not been released.
The sheriff's office said a fourth suspect was taken into custody Wednesday evening. His age is unknown.
"As the case progresses, more charges will be filed if warranted. The Oakland County Sheriff's Office and Prosecutor's Office are working closely to ensure all those responsible for this shooting face the appropriate consequences," the sheriff's and prosecutor's offices said in a joint statement. "Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the Oakland County Sheriff's Office at 248-858-4950, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP. Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $2,000 for information leading to an arrest in the case. Tipsters remain anonymous."
Omarrel Shahon Ford Jr., 18, was killed and a 19-year-old man was in critical condition, according to the sheriff's office. Their names were not released, but Pontiac City Council member Melanie Rutherford told CBS News Detroit on Tuesday that the two victims are brothers. Rutherford said the surviving victim is "fighting for his life right now."
Deputies identified a third victim, but that person was not injured.
The incident happened at about 7:49 p.m. on July 8 in the area of West South Boulevard and Highland Avenue.
The sheriff's office said investigators found the 18-year-old unresponsive with a gunshot wound to his chest. He was taken to the hospital, where he died from his injuries. The 19-year-old man was taken to a hospital by a citizen and is expected to survive, according to the sheriff's office.
An investigation is ongoing.
