Teen critically injured after shot in the head on Detroit's east side, police say
The Detroit Police Department is investigating after a 17-year-old was shot in the head Tuesday afternoon on the city's east side.
Police say the shooting happened shortly after 4 p.m. in the area of Saint Aubin and Lafayette streets. Commander Jevon Johnson says the teen is in critical condition and is "fighting for his life."
Destiny Brown, who lives in the apartments near the corner of Saint Aubin and Lafayette streets, says that what she saw Tuesday afternoon is a scary reality for her far too frequently.
"First it starts with fireworks, then fireworks bring fights, then fights comes shootings, and then this, so it's been very traumatic," Brown told CBS News Detroit. "I have two kids. They left an hour before this happened, and they were just playing outside, you know, all of these kids they play out here. They have swimming pools, they have their bikes out here, and they're riding around playing while stuff like this can happen at any moment. And it's terrifying."
Police did not release details on a suspect or what led up to the shooting.
"This is a Green Light location, and we are going over all of our video assets as well as canvassing the neighborhood," Johnson said.
The investigation is ongoing.
