2 dead, 1 injured following shooting involving officers in Wynwood, Miami Police say
A man and a woman are dead, and another man was injured following a shooting involving police in Wynwood Saturday morning, authorities said.
The incident was reported near the area of Northwest 1st Court and 23rd Street around 3 a.m. when an altercation between the two men led to one of them pulling out a gun.
According to police, when they arrived on the scene, they saw the armed man and fired their guns. Police said that more than one officer discharged their weapons.
"Officers observed the male who was armed. Subsequently, shots were fired," Ofc. Mike Vega with Miami Police told the media. "We know that the subject who had the firearm was taken to Memorial Jackson Hospital."
The woman was also shot and taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital, police said
The man and woman later died at the hospital. A third person suffered a hand injury and is expected to be okay.
It's unclear if the person who was injured was struck by police.
"We do have several witnesses who were on the scene, and they are at our station being interviewed to get more details," Vega said.
The party ended when gunfire erupted
Partygoers in Wynwood were ducking and hiding from bullets.
"I just heard a lot of gunshots, about 10 gunshots, firing back and forth," said witness J. Slaughter. "Next thing you know, you just see a bunch of people running. There were cars skirting off."
This is the second shooting that happened this week in Wynwood. Just after midnight on Thursday, a home invasion at a Wynwood high-rise took a violent turn, leaving three men injured.
