Palm Beach commission approves "President Donald J. Trump Boulevard"
A busy stretch of South Florida roadway will soon be called "President Donald J. Trump Boulevard."
On Tuesday, county commissioners voted unanimously to rename a 4-mile stretch of Southern Boulevard that runs from Palm Beach International Airport to the president's home at the Mar-a-Lago resort.
Legislation passed by the Florida Legislature and signed into law by Gov. Ron DeSantis earlier this year directs the Florida Department of Transportation to erect a sign along the stretch of Southern Boulevard honoring Trump.
The legislation also calls for another section of the road be renamed "PBSO Motorman Highway," in honor of three motorcycle deputies with the Palm Beach Sheriff's Office who were killed in a crash last year.
In a separate vote, commission also approved the honorary designation.
The new signs should be installed by September. The names are ceremonial, meaning postal addresses and emergency-response systems will continue to use Southern Boulevard.
Second South Florida road renamed to honor Trump
Last December, Hialeah renamed a 4-mile stretch of Palm Avenue, near Hialeah Park Casino, President Donald J. Trump Avenue. The road goes from Okeechobee Road to the south and Amelia Earhart Park to the north, entirely within Hialeah's city limits.
County commissioner Kevin Cabrera sponsored the name change initiative with Commissioners JC Bermudez, Rene Garcia and Robert Gonzalez co-sponsors.
"President Trump exemplifies true public service. Renaming Palm Avenue forever immortalizes his legacy. Future generations traveling this road will be reminded of his fight for the principles of freedom, prosperity and opportunity," Cabrera said at the time.
During the 2024 election, Trump earned 75% of the vote in Hialeah, and achieved a historic victory in Miami-Dade County, winning by 12 points. It was the first time a Republican had won the county since 1988.
Several of Trump's properties also bear his name, including Trump International Beach Resort in Suny Isles Beach and Trump National Doral, as well as products he endorses.
