Saturday and Sunday are both NEXT Weather Alert days in Minnesota due to dangerous heat and humidity.

An extreme heat warning is in effect for most of Minnesota and Wisconsin from noon Saturday through 9 p.m. Sunday.

Highs will reach the mid 90s on Saturday with sunshine and breezy winds. With the humidity, it'll feel like the 100s.

This will likely be the Twin Cities' hottest day since September 2023 — and could potentially set a daily record high.    

Expect more of the same on Sunday with highs back in the mid 90s and heat index values up to 110 degrees in the metro.

A cold front will drop through on Sunday night into Monday, bringing another round of showers and storms, along with more comfortable weather as highs return to the 70s for the rest of the week.

It looks like the front will stall across southern Minnesota, bringing more showers and storms Tuesday through Thursday.

Powerful storms batter Bemidji area; tornado kills three in North Dakota

Three people are dead in North Dakota, and tens of thousands are without power in northern Minnesota after powerful storms swept across the upper Midwest Friday and overnight Saturday.

The National Weather Service in Grand Forks reported wind gusts of up to 106 mph at Bemidji Regional Airport just before 1 a.m. on Saturday.   

"I cannot ever recall hearing a rushing wind like that!" Bemidji Mayor Jorge Prince posted on Facebook in the early hours Saturday. "Emerged from our basement to find our neighborhood with lots of trees down and several homes with severe damage." 

Before the storms roared into Minnesota, two men and a woman were killed at two separate locations late Friday in the North Dakota town of Enderlin, located about 57 miles southwest of Fargo, according to the Cass County sheriff.

Tens of thousands of North Dakota and Minnesota residents are still without power as of Saturday afternoon.
