A shelter-in-place order has been lifted south of the Twin Cities after a police search for a suspect that later resulted in an arrest, police say.

Shortly before 3 p.m., Lakeville police said they were  in the area of 190th Street and Highway Avenue. A shelter-in-place order was issued by police for the area.

Police said the 24-year-old male suspect had multiple active felony warrants.

At 4:16 p.m., police said they are clearing their presence in the area after an "extensive search" that included K-9 teams, a drone unit and Minnesota State Patrol helicopter could not locate the suspect. The shelter order was also lifted.

Police later confirmed the suspect was taken into custody shortly before 5 p.m. near the 19200 block of Harappa Avenue "after an observant resident contacted police."

"We appreciate the community's support and assistance as we resolved this incident," police said.

Lakeville Area Schools told WCCO that the school district was aware that police issued an alert for an area of the community. No schools in the district went on lockdown, but they worked with police to ensure student safety.
