"It's one of those holidays where people like to have fun"
Saturday afternoon, remnants of exploded fireworks could be found all over 112th Avenue, and close to where the deadly stabbing took place, there were empty boxes of fireworks.
Police were stationed on the block all day. Detectives with the Queens South Homicide Squad questioned drivers and went door to door looking for surveillance video while neighbors like Mohammed Reza cleaned up.
"It's scary, yeah. It's midnight, I don't know what's going on there, but until 11:30 I was here, it was OK," he said.
Reza and his daughter Zayna were asleep long before the celebration exploded into violence.
"It was pretty busy. There was a bunch of parties and everything," Zayna Reza said. "They're all drunk and smoking, and we don't participate in that."
"It's one of those holidays where people like to have fun, you know, some like to have more fun than others," one neighbor said.
