AFSCME District Council 47, the union that represents 6,000 city workers, including the Philadelphia Parking Authority and the Philadelphia Housing Authority, has reached a tentative agreement with the city, averting a possible strike.

Mayor Cherelle Parker said the agreement will increase DC 47 members' pay by 13.5% over her four years in office. That includes a new three-year contract and the one-year contract extension agreed to last fall.

The agreement also includes a $1,250 bonus in the first year and an increase of the DC 47 health care claims paid by the city, from 91% up to 92%, the mayor's office said in a news release Wednesday.

"Today marks a significant milestone for the City of Philadelphia, as we announce a tentative three-year agreement with AFSCME District Council 47. This agreement reflects our commitment to valuing the hard work and dedication of our public service employees," Parker said in a statement. "Together, we are investing in our workforce and ensuring that our city continues to thrive through collaboration and mutual respect. I want to thank everyone involved in these negotiations for their dedication to making Philadelphia a better place for all."   

News of the agreement came a day after the union held a strike authorization vote Monday.

The union said more information will be shared soon on the agreement.

Union members will need to ratify this new agreement.

If the union approves the tentative agreement, it will cost about $92 million over the five-year plan.
