Man killed after small plane crashes near Lancaster Airport, officials said
A small plane crashed Sunday morning in Lititz, Pennsylvania, killing one person, Lancaster County officials said.
According to Lancaster County officials, the aircraft went down just before 8 a.m. near 500 Airport Road. The plane's sole occupant was a male, and he was pronounced dead at the scene, officials said. The identity of the victim has not yet been released.
The National Transportation Safety Board said the crash involved a Piper PA-46, which is a single engine aircraft. It crashed shortly after departing from the Lancaster Airport, according to the NTSB.
Two investigators with the NTSB are traveling to the scene to document the wreckage and assess what led to the crash.
In a statement, the NTSB said, "The airplane will be moved to a secure facility for further evaluation" once documentation of the accident site is complete.
According to the , the plane's registration number is linked to a corporation based out of Lewes, Delaware, in Sussex County called Same Day Service Corp.
A preliminary report by the NTSB is expected within a month of the crash.
In March, five people were injured when a small plane took off from Lancaster Airport and crashed in the parking lot of Brethren Village Retirement Community in Lititz. No one on the ground was hurt during that crash, but several cars were badly damaged.
