Bystander shot during road rage incident in Philadelphia's Kensington neighborhood, police say
A man has been charged in connection with a road rage shooting that injured a bystander in Philadelphia's Kensington neighborhood on Friday.
Police were called to the intersection of E Street and Indiana Avenue just before 10 a.m. for a report of a shooting. That's where they found a gray 2014 Nissan Altima with gunfire damage.
The driver of the Nissan told police he was involved in a shootout with another man who pointed a gun at him and fired shots. The 29-year-old driver, who had a valid permit to carry a gun, surrendered his firearm and was taken in for further investigation.
Meanwhile, a 27-year-old woman told officers she was walking on Indiana Avenue when she was shot. Police said they found the woman near B Street and Indiana Avenue with a gunshot wound to her stomach. She was taken to a local hospital in critical condition.
Police later said a driver of a black Honda Civic was stopped on the 600 block of East Tusculum Street by highway patrol officers.
Police identified the 40-year-old driver, Eric Franklin, as the offender from the shootout and brought him into custody. Franklin was charged with two counts of aggravated assault and related offenses.
The other driver was not charged.
The incident remains under investigation.
