A West Deptford, New Jersey, man died after falling into the Big Timber Creek in Westville on Wednesday night, officials said Thursday.

The man, 36-year-old Valentin Garciagaona, owned a landscaping company and was working alongside the creek when he lost his footing and fell in, Westville police Chief Michael Packer said.

The search for Garciagaona turned into a recovery mission on Wednesday night, the Gloucester County Office of Emergency Management . Around 9:30 p.m., recovery crews pulled the man's body from the water.

Packer said police received a call around 1:25 p.m. about a man falling in the water near the 800 block of Edgewater Avenue. A caller told 911 that he saw the man in the water but then lost sight of him, according to Packer.

Dive teams and marine units from Gloucester, Camden and Cumberland Counties helped in the search.

Gloucester County OEM said the Westville Fire and Police departments led the effort.
