One person has died after they shot at a Ligonier police officer before appearing to turn the gun on themself, according to Pennsylvania State Police out of Westmoreland County.

The officer, who was unhurt, was conducting a traffic stop along Route 30 Saturday evening when the driver shot at the officer, state police said.

A representative of the Westmoreland County District Attorney's Office approached a KDKA-TV reporter near the scene as it was clearing around 9:30 p.m., and offered conflicting information, saying no officer was shot at. They also said a spokesperson for the DA's office would call KDKA-TV with more details.

When KDKA-TV reached out to that spokesperson via email, they said they had no updates beyond their brief original statement.

"County detectives are on the scene of a police-related incident," the statement read. "It is contained. There are no injuries to officers and no threat to the community."

KDKA-TV found a large police scene along Buddy Lane and Route 30 near Laughlintown, a residential area. Ligonier Valley police were also involved.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. An SUV was also towed away.

Westmoreland County detectives are continuing the investigation.
