It's decision day in the Freeport Area School District; the school board there will vote on whether to go ahead with a pretty big renovation plan for its high school.

It's one that could cost this district up to around $55 million, and it's a decision set to affect a lot of people here.

"I'm between the middle school and the senior high school," Charlotte Hajel of Buffalo Township said.

"One is a graduate – and the other is a rising sophomore," Julie Micelli of Sarver said, referring to her children in the district.

The $55 million one is a full high school renovation. That number includes construction, HVAC, electrical, and plumbing.

"Something should be done, but I think they should be conservative," Micelli said.

There is also a $25.5 million hybrid project.

That's for partial renovations, including a roof replacement.

"I'm leaning toward, as always, the middle ground," Micelli said.

The vote on the project has been moved back a couple of times. The board was supposed to vote on it last in May.

"I think it's inevitable – just like anything," Micelli said.

Some have raised concerns about the cost.

That's all we do is pay taxes – and higher taxes they go," Hajel said. "… I don't know how I'll be able to pay more taxes than I already do."

People KDKA-TV spoke with, though, say doing nothing should not be an option.

"I think like any homeowner, you have to keep up with it instead of letting it just get ahead of you," Hajel said.

Wednesday's meeting is set to start at 7 p.m. That's going to be in the auditorium of the senior high school.
