Meals on Wheels program in Elizabeth Forward will continue as it always has
Giant Eagle has confirmed to KDKA-TV that the Meals on Wheels program in Elizabeth Forward will continue to receive the full amount of food that it has received to date.
Meals on Wheels had been receiving donations, including bread and baked goods, from the store to help serve the community in need.
Dan Donovan, Giant Eagle's senior director of public relations, said the program will continue as it always has.
On Tuesday morning, a Giant Eagle spokesperson said there was a miscommunication between the store and the Meals on Wheels program about fulfilling orders.
On Monday, Karen Prescott, the Meals on Wheels coordinator in Elizabeth Forward, said they were informed by a store employee that they would no longer be receiving food from the store.
"When one of our runners who picks up the extra items that are down at the Giant Eagle in Elizabeth came back, she only had a box, which normally we have a number of boxes, and even bags of stuff. But she came back with one small box. It had about six items in it and she said to me that she was told that that would be the last day that they would be able to supply us with anything," Karen Prescott said, the Meals on Wheels coordinator.
KDKA-TV reached out to the Meals on Wheels coordinator on Tuesday night, who said they received a voicemail from Giant Eagle earlier in the day to discuss rescheduling its order.
