The Pittsburgh Penguins are slated to make double-digit picks over seven rounds during the two-day 2025 NHL Draft

The event is taking place at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, with Round 1 on Friday, followed by Rounds 2-7 on Saturday. The action on Saturday kicks off at noon. 

The Penguins enter the 2025 draft looking for an infusion of young talent for first-year coach Dan Muse. The 42-year-old Muse comes from the New York Rangers, who hired former longtime Pittsburgh coach Mike Sullivan this offseason. 

Pittsburgh last made the playoffs in 2022 and has not won a playoff series since 2018.

Who have the Penguins drafted?  

Benjamin Kindel, Forward, First Round, Pick 11

The Penguins selected forward Benjamin Kindel with their first of three first-round picks. 

The 18-year-old has filled the stat sheet for the Calgary Hitmen of the Western Hockey League over the last two seasons. He's tallied 159 points, including 99 points in 65 regular-season games during the 2024-25 season.

He has a knack for getting his teammates involved, as 109 of his 159 points over the last two seasons have been from assists. 

The 5-foot-10, 180-pound forward was a consensus Top 20 prospect in this year's draft. Kindel was one of the "bigger risers" ahead of the draft before adding he has some of the "finest playmaking ability" in the class.

Penguins trade 12th overall pick to the Flyers

Pittsburgh was slated to pick again at No. 12 overall, but the squad traded the selection to the Philadelphia Flyers for picks No. 22 and No. 31 of the first round. The Flyers selected center Jack Nesbitt at No. 12 overall.

Bill Zonnon, Forward, First Round, Pick 22

With its second of three first-round picks, the Penguins drafted forward Bill Zonnon.

The 18-year-old has spent the last two seasons with the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies of the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League. The 6-foot-2, 185-pounder tallied 83 points, including 55 assists, in the regular season last season. He notched 58 points during the 2023-24 regular season.

Zonnon, a left-hander, was a consensus Top 30 prospect. According to a post on X by the QMJHL, at the combine were the most of any prospect in attendance. 

"There is plenty for Zonnon to clean up before he can play at the NHL level, but the tools are there for a strong middle-six winger," CBS Sports said. 

Will Horcoff, Forward, First Round, Pick 24

Pittsburgh, with its third first-round selection, drafted forward Will Horcoff. 

 up in the first round to select the University of Michigan product. Pittsburgh sent the 31st and 59th overall picks in this year's draft to the Los Angeles Kings for pick No. 24. 

In 18 regular-season games with the Wolverines last season, Horcoff tallied 10 points. The 18-year-old left-hander is a native of Birmingham, Michigan.

"While he played center, many experts believe he will be a winger at the NHL level," CBS Sports said. "Between his size, power, shot and NHL pedigree, there is a lot to like about Horcoff. He just has quite a bit of developing left to do."

The 6-foot-5, 203-pounder played for the United States at the 2024 Under-17 Five Nations Tournament, bringing home a gold medal. 

Horcoff is the son of former NHL player Shawn Horcoff.  

Penguins acquire the 39th overall pick, select Peyton Kettles

The Penguins traded defensemen Conor Timmins and Isaac Belliveau to the Buffalo Sabres in exchange for defenseman Connor Clifton and the 39th overall pick. 

With the 39th overall pick, the Penguins selected defenseman Peyton Kettles. 

Kettles spent the last three seasons with the Swift Current Broncos in the Western Hockey League in the Canadian Hockey League. 

In 96 career games, the 6'5" defenseman compiled seven goals and 20 assists for 27 points. 

Penguins select Charlton Trethewey 73rd overall

With the 9th pick in the third round, the Penguins selected defenseman Charlton Trethewey from the United States National Team Development Program. 

The 6'2" defenseman is committed to playing at Boston University in the 2025-26 season. 

Trethewey does have a Pittsburgh connection, having spent time with the Pittsburgh Penguins Elite program from 2020-22. 

He's been with the U.S. program since 2023, and this past year, he was on the World Junior Championship roster, playing seven games, scoring one assist, and recording a +3. 

Trethewey broke onto the scene with the U.S. program in 2023, and in his first year with the NTDP, he scored 12 goals and 35 points in 52 games.   

Penguins select goalie Gabriel D'Aigle 84th overall, trade 85th overall pick to Vegas

With back-to-back picks late in the third round, the Penguins selected goaltender Gabriel D'Aigle 84th overall, but traded the 85th overall pick to the Vegas Golden Knights. 

D'Aigle spent last season in the QMJHL and has recently trained with former Penguins' goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury. This past season with Victoriaville, he played 55 games, posted an .883 save percentage, and had a record of 16-33-2. 

Shortly after selecting D'Aigle, the Penguins announced they had traded the 85th overall pick to Vegas in exchange for the 91st overall pick and the 154th overall pick. 

Vegas would ultimately select center Mateo Nobert from the QMJHL. 

Defenseman Brady Peddle selected by the Penguins 91st overall

After swapping picks with Vegas, the Penguins selected defenseman Brady Peddle out of the USHL. 

The 6'3" defenseman spent last season with the Waterloo Black Hawks in the USHL and played 62 regular-season games, scoring three goals, seven assists, and 10 points. 

During their playoff run, Peddle appeared in 15 games, scoring one goal, nine assists, and 10 points. 

Peddle could return to Waterloo next season, but is committed to Michigan State for the 2026-27 season. 

Forward Travis Hayes selected with the 105th overall pick

The Penguins used their lone fourth-round pick to select forward Travis Hayes from the Soo Greyhounds of the Ontario Hockey League.

Hayes stands at 5-foot-11, 175 pounds, and is the younger brother of Avery Hayes, who currently plays for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.

Last season with the Greyhounds, Hayes recorded 21 goals and 51 points in 65 games played.

Penguins draft another forward, Ryan Miller, with the first of three fifth-round picks

With the 130th overall selection, the Penguins drafted forward Ryan Miller from the WHL's Portland Winterhawks.

Listed at 6 feet, 177 pounds, Miller is described as a gritty forward who isn't afraid to use his body to maintain his positioning.

With the Winterhawks last season, Miller recorded 16 goals and 31 points in 50 games played.

He is committed to playing college hockey at the University of Denver during the 2026-27 season.

Penguins draft right-handed defenseman Quinn Beauchesne with the 148th overall pick

The Penguins add another defenseman to their ever-growing prospect pool, this time with Beauchesne from the Ontario Hockey League's Guelph Storm.

Scouts describe Beauchesne as a high-end skater with a never-ending motor.

Last season with the Storm, Beauchesne recorded six goals and 18 assists in 49 games played.

Another Soo Greyhound, Jordan Charron, taken with the 154th pick

The Penguins dip back into the Soo Greyhound pool to draft winger Jordan Charron.

Charron scored 10 goals and added 11 assists in 48 games with the Greyhounds last season.

He is committed to playing college hockey for St. Lawrence University during the 2026-27 season.

Penguins take winger Carter Sanderson with sixth-round pick

Now in the sixth round, the Penguins drafted winger Carter Sanderson from the Muskegon Lumberjacks of the United States Hockey League.

The Pierre, South Dakota, native recorded five goals and 11 total points in 48 games played last season. He also dressed for two games for the U.S. National U18 Team.

Sanderson, listed at 6-foot-1, 196 pounds, is currently committed to play for the University of North Dakota for the 2026-27 campaign.

Penguins use lone seventh-round pick to select forward Kale Dach

Kale Dach currently plays for the Calgary Hitmen of the WHL and is a teammate of first-round pick Benjamin Kindel.

Scouts describe Dach, listed at 5-foot-11 and 172 pounds, as a playmaking forward who aptly uses his quick hands in tight spaces.

During the 2024-25 season with the Sherwood Park Crusaders of the British Columbia Hockey League, Dach registered 22 goals and 87 points in 54 games played.

Dach is also committed to playing in the NCAA with Penn State for the 2026-27 season.

Who did the Pittsburgh Penguins draft last year?

Pittsburgh's first-round pick last year went to the San Jose Sharks as part of the Erik Karlsson trade. 

The team made six selections in the 2024 NHL Draft, including selecting defenseman Harrison Brunicke of the Kamloops Blazers and forward Tanner Howe of the Regina Pats in the second round. Both were of the Western Hockey League. 

The Penguins' last pick in the first round came in 2023, when the team selected Braden Yager.
