The Penn Hills community is losing a staple now. The Hartley family just announced it's closing the Shop N Save there, for good.

The Hartley family, which operates Shop 'n Save stores in Penn Hills and Plum,

"This store has been a part of so many family traditions, grocery trips, holiday meals, and neighborhood conversations," the family said. "We're thankful to our loyal customers and dedicated team members who have supported us over the past 34 years."

The family says they'll start a clearance sale on Thursday and will be keeping their regular business hours for the time being.

Anyone who has Shop 'n Save gift cards will be able to redeem them at other locations, including the Holiday Park store in Plum that the family operates and says will remain open.

Now, loyal customers know the chance to fill up their carts at the Shop N Save, in Penn Hills, is limited.

"It was a great store, certainly was a local store, and I think it had a lot of really good loyal customers," said Joel Dombkowski. "I think it's a shame, but I think with the economic conditions and all of the inflation in prices of goods and services going up, I think a store like this, it's tough to compete against Walmart and some of the bigger stores."

This location has many loyal shoppers, indeed. Lots of them, commenting on the social media post. At the Penn Hills store, shopper Michael Fiore said, "The store is so clean, the people are so nice, I'm just kind of sad it's going to go."

Before it goes, weekly ad specials will be honored through today, and the store will keep regular business hours, for now. Then a clearance sale will start on Thursday, leading up to the official closing.

"Well, I just have to go somewhere else, that's all there is to it, and there are other Shop N Saves, Giant Eagles, and whatnot, so what are you going to do, it's what happens," said Fiore.

The final closing date is yet to be announced, but this pending change is already leaving a hole in Penn Hills shoppers' hearts.

Dombkowski said, "It's a shame, cause you know certainly they had a lot of loyal customers."

Anyone who has Shop 'n Save gift cards can redeem them at other locations. That includes the Holiday Park store in Plum, which the family also operates and says will remain open.
