Thousands of volunteers are needed to participate in a dress rehearsal for the new terminal at Pittsburgh International Airport this fall.

The work at Pittsburgh International Airport is 90% complete, and before the terminal opens in the fall, the Allegheny County Airport Authority says it's looking for 3,000 to 4,000 volunteers to take part in a "full-scale dress rehearsal" that will consist of what a normal day at the airport will be like.

"This will be the first opportunity to see the building truly come alive," .

Those playing the parts of passengers will be testing everything from ensuring the signage is clear and understood to baggage claim.

Allegheny County Airport Authority's Bob Kerlik told KDKA-TV that some taking part will have scripts.

"They'll be given a different portion of where they're going to be in baggage claim, security checkpoint, baggage claim."

According to the Airport Authority, they are looking for all types to play the parts.

"Men, women, and children, and the special needs groups for people who need special accommodations for accessibility as part of the public trials, and we want to make sure all the systems work for them also," Kerlik said.

Construction on the $1.5 billion project began in July 2021 to modernize the airport, making it more efficient and improving the passenger experience.

No date has been set for the dry run, but officials say it will be in September. Anyone wishing to participate in the dress rehearsal can . Volunteers will not be compensated or reimbursed. Parking will be free.

If all goes well, the grand opening of the new terminal will come shortly afterward.
