Police identify suspect in hit-and-run that ended on Dallas Love Field tarmac
Police have identified the man arrested Friday after a brief chase ended on a runway at Dallas Love Field Airport.
Benjamin Chitenje, 53, has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, terroristic threat interrupting a public place, criminal trespass, evading arrest or detention with a vehicle, and a misdemeanor drug offense, according to the Dallas Police Department.
Chase began after parking lot crash
The incident began around 6:10 a.m. Friday when Chitenje allegedly intentionally struck another vehicle in a parking lot. He then rammed his car through a gate and drove into the secured tarmac area of the airport, police said.
Police response paused airport operations
Officers responded immediately, and a short chase ensued, temporarily halting operations at the airport. Chitenje was eventually stopped by police and taken into custody.
He was transported to a local hospital for evaluation before being booked into the Dallas County Jail.
Airport activity resumes
Normal operations resumed on the west side of the airport, but the east side remained temporarily closed, police said.
No injuries were reported.
