Tesla charging unit blamed for North Texas house fire 00:25

A home in Lewisville caught fire Monday afternoon, started by a Tesla, the Lewisville Fire Department said.

The two-alarm fire started around 12:30 p.m. at a house in the 300 block of Meadowview Way, according to Lewisville FD.

CBS News Texas Chopper was over the scene, which showed the electric vehicle completely burned and holes in the roof of the home and above the garage.

The homeowner reported coming home and plugging in her Tesla, the city of Lewisville said. She reportedly then noticed some "electrical arcing coming from the charger unit."

According to the report, the woman stated that the charging unit caught fire, prompting her to move the Tesla out of the garage and park it down the street.

The fire from the charging unit quickly spread to the game room above the garage, as well as the attic of the second floor, causing heavy damage to the house, the city's report states. Another car in the garage, a Lexus, was also destroyed by the flames.

The fire was extinguished around 1:15 p.m.

Lewisville FD said there were no injuries; however, one Lewisville firefighter was treated at the scene for heat exhaustion and released.

Flower Mound, Lake Cities, Carrollton, and The Colony assisted Lewisville FD.
