Heat advisory continues in North Texas as temperatures reach triple digits
It is officially the hottest day of the year in DFW. It has been 340 days since DFW Airport last hit at least 100 degrees and that streak has officially come to an end.
A Heat Advisory is in effect until Wednesday at 7 p.m. for heat index values reaching 108 degrees.
Triple-digits remain in the forecast through Thursday due to a ridge of high pressure dominating in the upper levels of the atmosphere. There will still be a decent amount of moisture in the atmosphere, which will make the feels-like temperatures reach around 108.
Be sure to stay hydrated and take frequent breaks in the A/C if planning on being outdoors for an extended amount of time.
Due to the lack of mixing in the atmosphere, air will remain stagnant and allow for high ozone levels to develop at the surface. Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday will be unhealthy for those with respiratory or heart-related illnesses to be outside for an extended period.
A pattern shift is expected this weekend. Thursday night, a cold front will move through and bring a chance of rain this weekend.
The good news is that no severe weather is expected at this time and temperatures will dip down into the middle to lower 90s.
