1 dead, 18 wounded in Chicago weekend shootings, police say
At least one person was killed and 18 other people were wounded in shootings across Chicago this weekend, according to police.
The ages of the victims range from 15 to 51.
Shootings from Friday
In the first shooting of the weekend, three teens were wounded in a shooting in the 9000 block of South Exchange Avenue around 7:30 p.m. Friday.
A 15-year-old boy was shot in the ankle and thigh and was taken to Comer Children's Hospital in serious condition. An 18-year-old man was shot in the back and arm and was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in good condition. A 19-year-old man suffered a graze wound to the hand and was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in good condition.
At 9:06 p.m. Friday, four people were standing outside a gas station in the 600 block of South Homan Avenue when an SUV pulled up and someone inside started shooting.
A 16-year-old boy was shot in the left leg and was taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital in critical condition. A 26-year-old man was shot in the chest and abdomen and was taken to Mt. Sinai in critical condition. A 23-year-old man was shot in the ankle and was taken to Mt. Sinai in good condition. A 24-year-old man was shot in the right leg and buttocks and was taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition.
In other shootings from 5 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday:
- At 9:47 p.m., a 17-year-old man arrived at Roseland Community Hospital with a gunshot wound to the right leg. The victim told police he was driving when he heard a loud noise and felt pain, but did not provide any further details on the shooting. He was listed in good condition.
- At 11:59 p.m., two men were in the 3500 block of West 5th Avenue when a white SUV pulled up, and someone inside pulled out a gun and started shooting. A 35-year-old man was shot multiple times and was taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition. A 33-year-old man was shot in the right knee and right thigh and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in fair condition.
Shootings from Saturday
- At 11:10 a.m., a 17-year-old boy was in the 10100 block of South Yates Boulevard when a black sedan pulled up, and two people inside started shooting. The victim was shot in the leg and was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in fair condition.
- At 1:30 p.m. in the 6400 block of South Green Street, a man victim, 36, sustained an accidental gunshot wound in the hip and was transported to U of C Hospital, initially reported in good condition. There are no offenders in custody. Area detectives are investigating.
- At 6:04 p.m. in the 400 block of West 110th Street, a boy, 15, was near the sidewalk when he was approached by a dark-in-color vehicle, and an occupant from within produced a handgun and fired shots. The victim was struck in the neck and abdomen by gunfire. The victim was transported to Comer Children's Hospital, where he died.
- At 5:20 p.m. in the 8200 block of South King Drive, a man victim, 18, was near the street when he was struck in the arm by gunfire. The victim was transported to the U of C Hospital and was initially reported in good condition.
- At 8:47 p.m. in the 6700 block of South Throop Street, officers responded to a call of a person shot. The victim, a 44-year-old female, was outside when she heard shots and felt pain. The victim sustained a graze wound to the right thigh and was transported to the University of Chicago Hospital in good condition. The victim was unable to provide details of the incident.
- At 10:37 p.m. in the 2000 block of West Marquette Road, officers responded to a walk-in gunshot victim at St Bernard Hospital. The victim, a 19-year-old man, was in his vehicle when he was involved in a verbal altercation with a group of people who were outside. An unknown offender in the group displayed a firearm and fired shots at the victim. The victim sustained a gunshot wound to the leg. The victim self-transported to St. Bernard Hospital, where he is listed in fair condition.
Shootings from Sunday
- At 12:49 a.m. in the 6200 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, the victim, a 51-year-old man, was outside when he was involved in a verbal altercation with an unknown offender who was in a vehicle. The offender displayed a firearm and fired shots at the victim from inside the vehicle. The victim suffered two gunshot wounds to the leg and was transported to the University of Chicago Hospital in good condition.
- At 12:39 a.m. in the 300 block of West Ontario Street, officers responded to a call of a person shot. Officers discovered the victim, a 39-year-old man, suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the body. The victim was transported to Northwestern Hospital in critical condition. The victim was unable to provide details about the incident. Preliminary investigation indicates that the victim was shot at by an offender in a vehicle.
- At 1:45 a.m. in the 11100 block of South Esmond Street, officers responded to a call of a person shot. A witness heard a verbal dispute and a loud noise from the backyard. Officers discovered the victim, a 32-year-old man, with a gunshot wound to the right knee. The victim was transported to Christ Hospital in good condition. The victim was uncooperative and did not provide details of the incident.
