Two people are injured and a male is in custody after a shooting in Dearborn Heights, Michigan, on Sunday morning that involved an AR-style rifle, according to police.
Officers were called to the 4100 block of Weddell Street shortly after 10:30 a.m. for reports of shots fired. Responding law enforcement found a man and a woman who had been shot. Both were taken to the hospital and considered to be in stable condition on Sunday afternoon, police say.
According to Dearborn Heights Police Chief Ahmad Haidar, someone entered a home on Weddell Street with an AR-style rifle and fired at the man and woman.
"The male, who was shot in the knee, was able to escape and run down the street," Haidar said. "At that point, he was able to notify 911."
A male who left the scene in a Ford F-150 was taken into custody, according to a posted by police around 4:15 p.m.
According to officials, the male in custody may be an ex-boyfriend of the woman shot.
