Mayor Levine Cava urges residents to be weather-ready ahead of the 2025 Atlantic hurricane season
With the start of the 2025 Atlantic hurricane season right around the corner, Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava is urging residents and visitors alike to be prepared and stay vigilant.
"Now is the time to make a safety plan and prepare your storm kit," Levine Cava said. "We know that just one storm can cause a catastrophic impact. We want to remind everyone that there are three key steps to take to be prepared this and every hurricane season. Stay informed, be storm ready and make a plan."
But it's not just hurricane season.
Levine Cava said residents should also prepare for the summer's extreme heat and rain events that can cause flooding.
"Today, May 15 marks the beginning of the rainy season. As extreme weather events continue to threaten our community, being ready for the rainy season means we must be prepared for flooding. During rainy season, and late into the fall, we experience heavier rains and king tides," Levine Cava said.
During heavier rains which have the potential for flooding, the mayor urged people to stay off the roads as much as possible. She said drivers who encounter flooded roads should turn around and not attempt to go through the water. Homes and businesses should be prepared for flooding, particularly in low lying areas or near water.
The mayor stressed the importance of being prepared for what's to come and urged residents to get homes, families and businesses weather-ready.
