Two dead, 2 injured in Miami's Little Haiti shooting; police investigate near Miami Edison Senior High School and bullet-riddled car
Two people died and two others were injured in an early morning shooting in Miami's Little Haiti neighborhood.
Miami police originally said that one person was killed, but later provided an update that a second person had also died.
According to police, just after midnight they received a ShotSpotter alert for the area of NW 62 Street and NW 2 Avenue.
A woman who lives in the area, who did not want to be identified in this report, said she called the police after hearing gunfire.
"We all ran in the house and jumped down, of course, and then called the police. That's like, that's, I mean, that's the normal thing that we do as people," she said.
When officers arrived they found a man who had been shot. Police said he was in a blue sedan stopped in the middle of NW 62 Street near the intersection of NW 2 Avenue. He was rushed to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center where he died.
Police noted bullet casings on the ground near the car and the glass of a bus stop next to it was shattered. Investigators also walked the grounds of nearby Miami Edison Senior High School and its basketball courts.
"We soon learned that a second male drove a few blocks away from the scene. He was located at NW 2 Avenue and 56th Street, where he was pronounced deceased inside of his vehicle," Miami spokeswoman Kiara Delva said.
The car the man was in was riddled with bullets, according to investigators.
Delva said two additional males with gunshot wounds drove themselves to Jackson Memorial Hospital. She did not release their conditions.
It's unclear if any of the gunshot victims were also the shooters, according to police, who confirmed there are no suspects in custody.
"Our detectives did, in fact, mention that they do believe there are other suspects that may be involved in this incident, and and this is why we need our community to come forward," Delva said.
