Miami Lakes Middle School students return to class after suspected gas leak prompted evacuation
A suspected gas leak prompted the temporary evacuation of Miami Lakes Middle School on Wednesday morning, according to Miami-Dade Fire Rescue.
Crews were dispatched to the school, located at 6425 Miami Lakeway North, after reports of a strong gas odor inside the building. Fire officials said the school had already been evacuated by the time first responders arrived.
Students said it happened around 8 a.m. They said there were not a lot of students in the school since the first bell is at 9 a.m.
Students and staff who were in the school were moved to a safe area while the scene was assessed. The school gave parents the option to pick up their children early and many did just that.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue and Florida Gas conducted an investigation.
After about an hour, the all-clear was given and students were allowed to return to class. No injuries have been reported.
No further details have made available.
