Flash flood warning issued in New Jersey, Pennsylvania after heavy rain Wednesday
A flash flood warning is in effect in parts of the Philadelphia region on Wednesday, hours after heavy rain that blanketed the area in the morning.
While the worst of the rain has died down and moved out of the area, dropping as much as two inches of precipitation in spots, some areas were still seeing scattered showers into the afternoon.
The flood alert is in effect in Bucks and Montgomery counties in Pennsylvania and Camden and Burlington counties in New Jersey until 4:15 p.m.
The Delaware and Schuylkill rivers, which absorb runoff from our streams and creeks, were swollen with extra water on Wednesday, according to data from the National Water Prediction Service.
The Delaware River was slated to crest above flood stage at its Washington Avenue monitoring station in Philadelphia early Thursday morning. In Burlington, New Jersey, the river has already been observed above the minor flood stage of 9.3 feet early Wednesday morning, and forecasted to crest closer to the moderate flood stage early Thursday morning.
Chances of scattered showers continue tonight and into Thursday.
Thursday could start with some fog and scattered storms, with a better chance of sunshine in the afternoon. The high will be around 70 degrees.
The Gulf Coast storm exits on Thursday, but just as quickly, another system arrives from the west. Warmth also surges into the area ahead of that system, and highs will climb back to the 80s to end the week.
But this could bring a few scattered storms to our region Friday afternoon along the warm front and again late Saturday with a cold front passage. The weekend does look warm with some sunshine each day and highs in the mid-80s.
Sunday is looking more seasonable and sunny.
